Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. Frenchman François-Eugène Brun fell in love with Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, setting up the first winery in Lebanon in 1868. More than 150 years since it was established, Domaine des Tourelles is run by the next generation of the Issa & Issa el Khoury families. Arak is one of the oldest spirits on earth and is the official spirit of Lebanon. Its production has been uninterrupted since the winery was founded. This Arak Brun is made from estate-grown indigenous Obeidi and Cinsault grapes, blended with fresh anise grown in a nearby village. The arak is then distilled three times, before being aged in clay jars for five years. Traditionally served diluted with water and ice.
